Hello Everyone,
My name is Bill Page and I lead a local group of people from Montgomery, Alabama who share the same interest and love of Martial Arts, Archery and Knife Throwing. Our club is known as Montgomery Feathers & Steel. We are a small group of about 30 people who meet twice per month or so to practice archery and knife throwing. We love to share our own experiences and to help teach new members the enjoyable sports of archery and knife throwing. Our group is comprised of a wonderful blend of many different people from all walks of life, and we have members whose ages range from 10 to 80. While all students of THE MARTIAL ARTS CENTER, Inc. are automatically members of Feathers & Steel, we are a separate and private club, so becoming a new member is based on acceptance by our existing club members. Etiquette toward and respect for each other is a mandatory part of becoming a member. No one is allowed to force or use issues of racism, sexism, religious or political beliefs, personal opinions, anger, or hate towards any other member as a means to discriminate or cause ill will. This group is and always will be open to individuals of all walks of life. Our goal is to promote the safe and enjoyable practice of archery, and knife and tomahawk throwing.
Archery (Feathers) Info:
I have been shooting a bow since I was about 6 years old, and have always practiced some form of archery since then. I have, through the years, earned an instructors level in Mediterranean, Mongolian, Olympic, and 3-D style archery. I have also been building my own bows, strings and arrows for approximately eight years, and teach workshops to all levels of archers who would like to learn how to make their own equipment. We all use traditional archery equipment and most of our members are using all wood bows that they made themselves in the bow building workshops that I teach. We have access to some great archery ranges located at the Central Alabama Gun Club (C.A.G.C.) in Shorter, Alabama, that includes a 10 to 50 yard static target range and a 20-station 3-D archery trail. I also have a 3-station static 20-yard range at my house. Once per month, we meet at one of the two locations and practice archery together.
Knife & Tomahawk Throwing (Steel) Info:
Our members also practice Knife and Tomahawk throwing once per month, and use several different styles of throwing and many types of weapons. I, and several other members of our group, are members of the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame. Once per year we host the Southern U.S. Knife Throwing Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.
I have three separate IKTHoF target ranges and one very diabolical “obstacle course” set up for throwing at my home, where we meet for our monthly practice. Workshops are available, teaching knife and tomahawk throwing to anyone interested in learning. Recently, with the help and training of my good friend Joe Darrah of Broken Feather Custom Knives, I have begun to grind my own throwing knives (to add to the list of skills we have here at Feathers & Steel). Knife and Tomahawk throwing is growing in popularity and is a safe, challenging and enjoyable sport for all ages. I can promise that you will be hooked when the first knife or hawk you throw sticks!
